Commons:Requests for permissions
Add topicRequests for Permissions
This page is for requesting permissions that can be granted on this wiki.
Here you can leave requests for the following permissions. Any members of the local Commons community is welcome to comment on requests; however, as Commons is still developing its local policies and guidelines, there is no set minimum period for which requests should remain open, nor is there either (a) a prescribed number of participants who should express a view or (b) a minimum level of support required for success. A bureaucrat, or steward following a request for closure on stewards' noticeboard in absence of a local bureaucrat, is empowered to use their discretion and good judgment, considering a combination of the candidate's trustworthiness and articulated need, in closing requests, granting rights upon closure of such successful requests. Reason: I thought I would be able to make do with autopatrolled
and translationadmin
in terms of my RecentChanges and NewPages patrolling, but, unfortunately, I would need to request many more user rights be added to either user group, so I'm requesting bureaucrat
and administrator
on Miraheze Commons. I am active on Miraheze Commons, mainly relating to patrolling, counter-vandalism reversion, WikiGnoming, and documentation page creation and editing in project namespace. In addition, I'm an administrator, who is very active with recruiting clueful, helpful, and active patrollers and translation administrators, so commonly, it makes sense to recruit those same users to the same, or comparable, role(s) on Miraheze Commons. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 07:00, 15 November 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Reason: I am requesting admin because I want to be helpful in reverting vandalism, such as deleting spam files and the like. I also wish this role for the autopatrolled role, so I don't need a patroller wasting their time patrolling a diff when it's just fine. - Hello BlackWidowMovie0000Editor, thanks for your interest but I have some doubts not to support the application. Your activity in the wiki has been scarce, the files you have uploaded are problematic. The attribution template is intended to allow the original author to allow the use of the file even if it is not licensed under a Creative Commons license, although technically they have the same permissions of use.
- This template is not the same as Fair Use. And the original authors of the images have clearly not allowed such use (the images may end up being deleted). About autopatrolled, it is mainly granted to users who have basic knowledge of copyright. I have rejected that before.
- I would prefer that you wait a reasonable time and help with monitoring, creating and maintaining pages before requesting more advanced permissions. Greetings. Hispano76 (talk) 22:16, 16 November 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
- BlackWidowMovie0000Editor I, too, would have to concur with the comments articulated by Hispano76 above. The workflow of Miraheze Commons administrators and patrollers is very different from that of an administrator or patroller on another wiki in that we also have to review every image and page with images on it as we patrol it, conducting Google reverse image searches and ensuring that attribution on the image is correct. As well, as Hispano76 rightly notes, there are differences between attribution and licensing, both of much be properly recorded. While I appreciate your efforts and wanting to volunteer, at this time, I don't think granting either
autopatrolled
oradministrator
would be helpful to you or the wiki. I would suggest having your images patrolled by a patroller or administrator over the next month or two, then we can perhaps revisitautopatrolled
Dmehus (talk) 22:40, 16 November 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]- Given your past history on Miraheze, granting sysop perms would not be appropriate at this time. I personally would first want you to prove that you are trustworthy before considering granting autopatrolled, let alone sysop. MacFan4000 (Talk Contribs) 23:33, 16 November 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Not done simply because the
bot
flag includes theautopatrol
user right, which three bureaucrats expressed a view that you were not suitable for that user right as part of theautopatrolled
user group. Even notwithstanding the above, related permissions request, this isn't approvable, as we would, ideally, need to examine your bot's source code, and need more details on specific task(s) it would perform, frequency of updates, estimated number of edits, and the like. Let's see how we can help make Commons a great media repository for the betterment of Miraheze and Miraheze wikis in general
Additional comments: I and Agent Isai actually talked (on the meta Stewards' Noticeboard) about why I should try to be active on Commons here since most users who vandalize and cause a commotion here on Commons comes from FAMEPedia, Gyaanipedia and others, So this plus Improvements, plus creating long-lasting policies that will help curb vandalism from commons is why I'm gonna focus more on Commons. Reason: I am requesting both bureaucrat and sysop rights so that I can better handle and sort images here on Commons without having to pester current sysops/bureaucrats. Over the past month, I've compiled a list of images that have no licensing or lack thereof. There is a large number of images that require verifications but have not had one. There are also some copyright violations on this wiki but very few admins who attend to verifying images or moderating pages and warding off spammers. I understand that people are busy, we're all humans, and that the current sysops and bureaucrats may not have time to check Commons which is why I would like to help. By getting the sysop right, I would delete images that violation our licensing policy and those which are spamful. As a bureaucrat, I would respond to concerns raised on the noticeboard which cannot be handled by sysops (e.g. ManageWiki change, request for permissions, bot request, etc.). While I understand the point Dmehus made in Ugochimobi's RfP about having plenty of bureaucrats, only Dmehus himself has had activity on this wiki. In fact, none of the 11 sysops or 10 bureaucrats have had any edits made on this wiki other than Dmehus. I think Commons could benefit from another bureaucrat and sysop, especially one who is active. I check Commons usually along with Meta and would be able to attend to any issues or concerns on this wiki. I have also read all of Commons' policies and am confident that I understand them well. Thank you.

- Comment While not opposed to this in future, I would personally rather see you request this in a few months, and instead consider requesting
translationadmin
here, which includes thedelete
user right. Ideally, it should be used to delete non-translation pages, but I'd be okay for it being used for the described purpose. I would just like to see you focus a bit more on preferring alternatives to deletion merely and requesting blocks for mildly self-promotional user pages. Dmehus (talk) 02:28, 23 August 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
- Dmehus If
translationadmin
includes thedelete
right then I would be content with that. My reasoning for requesting sysop is mostly just to delete pages which do not have valid licensing. Commons lacks concrete policies on when deleting pages is appropriate or what even should be hosted on Commons (though a policies page exists, it's technically a draft and is a bit vague). I have taken steps to try to prevent images from being deleted such as leaving notices on the talk pages of users who have uploaded images without proper policies advising them to please correct it and giving them a months notice before nominating the image for deletion. As for the self-promotional user pages, I personally do not recall advocating for blocks for users who have posted promotional material on Commons. Regarding the Farhan Rana Rajpoot user, I only commented about him having various accounts which he was using to evade his original lock (which was overturned in the end). I have taken steps such as letting users know that promotional content is not allowed on Commons and removing only the extremely offending material from the page while leaving all other material intact on user pages. Reason: Hello. I am requesting the sysop permission here as I have been actively helping to tag images for deletion which have missing essentials (licenses, sources, etc) and the response from the admins is nil or usually long though we have a couple of admins here. I am an admin on FAMEPedia where I help with the files (deleting unsourced and unlicensed files) but I have seen that users on FP have began uploading their spam-ish files to Commons without providing the sources and licenses. So I'd like to help out management of the commons.
If promoted, I will help out at Category:Deleteme and reviewing licenses.

Reason: Hi there, I'm Agent Isai. I am requesting local administrator so that I can better assist in handling and sorting through images. Currently, as translation administrator, I am able to delete images which lack copyright information or lack other vital information. As an administrator, I'd try and give Commons more of a structure and I'd also help to create and import scripts that would allow users to more efficiently tag images which lack copyright information and which inform users of this and gives them a chance to correct this issue before their images are deleted. I'd try and clean up Commons, make sure it's also better organized for users and would attend to any enquires and issues raised on the Administrators' noticeboard. Thank you for your consideration.

Not done per the strong and compelling arguments presented by Agent Isai. As well, it's also important to note that this is not the first time I've had to remove pages without proper by Ugochimobi on more than one wiki (including his own, as I recall). Finally, as I noted here, for the level of activity Miraheze Commons has, and particularly since Miraheze Commons is a shared image repository which carries with it stricter requirements for
autopatrolled
than any other wiki on Miraheze, I would not be comfortable even granting the candidateautopatrolled
on this wiki only for that reason. That's why Igranted Ugochimobi
interface-admin
because I trust him from the standpoint of not inserting malicious code, but patrolling on Miraheze Commons is a whole other ballgame. Nonetheless, I very much thank Ugochimobi for his willingness to contribute. Dmehus (talk) 03:56, 25 March 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Reason: Hi, I'm Chima (I believe you know that by now :), I am requesting the sysop
role because I can help out in the clearing and fixing the lacunas we currently have here on commonswiki. I am currently an interface administrator that does a neat job, I practically watch this wiki every single time (as long as I am awake) and I have realised that there are so many images and kinds of stuff that needs fixing and sorts, (violation of copyright, etc). I might not have demonstrated an understand of copyrights but I have demonstrable knowledge of them. Furthermore, I'd love to assist in fixing these lacunas in commonswiki and give a helping hand to the administration of the wiki as we currently have plenty sysops and crats that actually have no time for commonswiki, probably a member of the Site Reliability Engineering department or totally inactive. Oppose Thank you for your boldness but you just returned today from a months long hiatus and began to mass copy various Wikipedia templates without properly attributing them at all. This deeply concerns me as while I was going through your edits, I saw that most of your recent page creations are all copyright violations and before I knew it, a bureaucrat began to delete all these copyright violations. An administrator candidate should not be engaging in mass copyright violations as that reflects badly on the project and puts us in a potential tough spot should an issue arise from this. I don't want this to discourage you though as I know failed RfXs can, I encourage you to continue working on Commons and to continue looking after the community as you say you do. That will be an outstanding proof that you are not only not seeking hats for your own personal collection but that you also have the constant steadfastness needed for the role and eagerness to learn and rise from your mistakes.
