Administrators' noticeboard
This page is for matters that need administrators' attention on Commons.

Here you can:

  • Ask that an admin to block a user who is disruptive, vandalizing, or spamming
  • Request user rights that are assigned at an administrators discretion (autoconfirmed, confirmed, rollbacker, translationadmin)
  • Bring up other things that need administrators' attention.

To add your request, type in a title and click the "Add Topic" button below.

Please delete the image attacking me[edit source]

Hi, as I've already added {{delete}}, I'd like to have Image:Anti-Kaitakutan.png deleted, because it's a personal attack against me and my work Image:Kaitakutan_vkatsu.png. Thanks in advance.--開拓者 (talk) 10:07, 5 January 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Move files from sdiy wiki to here?[edit source]

Please could the files below be moved from sdiywiki to Miraheze Commons? --Rob Kam (talk) 17:27, 13 January 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Rob Kam There's no policy, though. At the moment you should only upload multimedia content hosted under one of the Creative Commons licenses or under the Public Domain. Unlike a standalone Wiki, Miraheze Commons may not use copyrighted or Fair Use content because it is a shared repository.
For months, I have been planning to do an RFC on the media content policy but have not had the time to do so and would not accept Fair Use and copyright. Any questions? Hispano76 (talk) 21:27, 15 January 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
No problem, I'll find out whether I can change the licenses or something ... --Rob Kam (talk) 22:48, 15 January 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Request for Autopatrolled rights for Penarc1[edit source]

Hi, I am requesting autopatrolled rights for Penarc1 (Contributions | CA | Block logs) because I am okay with her edits and uploads. HeartsDo (Talk || Global) 16:22, 30 August 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

HeartsDo, hello. About your request. There are several reasons to reject this.
Penarc1 has previously had problems with copyright and image source attribution. Some images you have recently uploaded, could be problematic because of their origin and what they represent. For example, photographs of maps, book covers and others that may not be licensed under a Creative Commons license given by their original authors or that are in the public domain.
Recently cropped an image under a CC BY NC ND license, which does not allow cropping of images. I believe it is appropriate for the user to learn the basics of copyright and Creative Commons licensing before granting the flag. Hispano76 (talk) 20:00, 21 September 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hispano76 OK, and me, I need to learn to be more vigilant about points that you giving ^^.
And just a little thing, if you can remove me confirmed rights because I am autoconfirmed now ! Thanks.
(PS: Sorry for the time I take to respond here, just a little busy with my work) HeartsDo (Talk || Global) 06:57, 11 October 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hispano76, I've  granted Penarc1 the autopatrolled flag, as all his uploads include both source and licensing information. The user seems to have long since learned from any past minor-ish CreativeCommons copyright licensing issues. As well, it cannot be said Miraheze Commons administrators are sufficiently active to patrol his edits, as the wiki's most active contributor. I thought we probably could've left the flag on when MacFan4000 granted here. Unless you have compelling arguments why the user cannot be or should not be granted this permission, I think we can consider the matter closed? Request for autopatrolled and translationadmin for Raltseye[edit source]

In this log action on Meta, I have granted translation administrator to Raltseye, one of Meta's most active and experienced translators, following his requesting the user group. He is also eager to assist with both translations and translation page administrator on Miraheze Commons and Miraheze Template Wiki. As well, he has had a Miraheze account since around 2018 and is also autopatrolled on Meta. As such, he has additionally requested translationadmin on both of those wikis, to which I am also requesting autopatrolled for him. I will update him (likely on Meta) on the relatively minor/nuanced differences between autopatrolled and translationadmin on Meta versus Miraheze Commons and Miraheze Template Wiki. Thanks. Request for Translationadmin for BlackWidowMovie0[edit source]

Hi, I'd like to request translationadmin because I know Spanish, and while people are uploading images, I can translate pages so Spanish-speaking users can read it and then accomplish what they came here to do. BlackWidowMovie0 (talk) 18:28, 3 December 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Not done, and you requested a partial block. I don't know the degree to which you know Spanish, or your translation extension experience. As you seem to be quite disruptive with your edits on the Miraheze community wikis, all of which require patrolling, responding, and, on occasion, reverting, it's clear the community has expressed to you to wait 3-6 months before actively contributing to the community wikis. Focus on your wikis, please. Dmehus (talk) 18:36, 3 December 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Invalid deletion request by DarkMatterMan4500‎[edit source]

Can you please stop deleting the image simple because of unfortunate coincidence? DarkMatterMan4500‎ claims I am a sockpuppet but I am not. Is good faith not allowed here if a vandal did it in the past? 蔓延防止等重点宣言! (talk) 15:12, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Of course people can assume good-faith, but that's not the reason why I suspected you might be a sock of that user. A brand new editor shouldn't be re-uploading the same file like you did there, which got me suspicious immediately. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) 15:18, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Move request[edit source]

Please move File:30px-Blue check.svg.png to File:30px-Blue check.png as it is the obvious naming error. Thanks! --Magogre (talk) 06:12, 17 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Magogre, I should've mentioned in  granting you the translationadmin permission on this wiki, on Commons and Template wikis, it includes the delete user right. Ideally, it should only be used for deleting not a translation subpages, but if local administrators aren't recently active, I am fine if you use it for non-controversial things like deleting trailing redirects. :) Dmehus (talk) 05:13, 13 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hrm, I tried to do this move, but it said, "The target filename is invalid." Dmehus (talk) 05:16, 13 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Request to disable abuse filter 1[edit source]

Abuse filter 1 gets in the way of a number of valid edits, such as changing the content model of a talk page, or creating an empty category page. There's no good reason that users should be forbidden from creating empty pages, and I'll note that the Wikimedia Commons filter referenced by this filter is set to log-only. — Arcversin (talk) 21:16, 24 March 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Arcversin, Hello. I am sorry for the delay in responding. About this question. If I remember correctly. This filter was created to prevent vandalism from a certain ip or account. But if you have any objection my colleagues can adapt these filters to only prevent blank creation to ips and not to users or I can choose to disable it. I will wait if my colleagues have objections or suggestions. @MacFan4000 and Agent Isai: Hispano76 (talk) 23:59, 14 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I've modified the filter so autoconfirmed users are now exempted too which should prevent legitimate edits from established users from being caught by the filter. Agent Isai Talk to me! 00:06, 15 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Commons[edit source]

hi all, I recently signed up for this beautiful version of commons, and I would like to ask if I can upload the files here with the same licenses I used on commons, since I was only focusing on files relating to period portraits. is it possible to insert pd licenses ?? and create the categories ?? A1cb3 (talk) 00:35, 12 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Could you explain what you mean by that? DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) 13:00, 5 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Uh-oh![edit source]

If you enter the "Drawn Feet Wiki," it says: "You do not have permission to read this page, for the following reason: The action you have requested is limited to users in one of the groups: , . It doesn't specify anything! What's wrong? NoneOfYourBusiness (talk) 20:14, 10 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The wiki was closed by us following copyright complaints sent to Miraheze Stewards. There is nothing you may do. Additionally, note that this wiki is completely unaffiliated to the affected wiki so I'm puzzled as to how you found this wiki and filed a request on it. AI Generated Images[edit source]

Hi everyone, SK here. I was wondering if we have an official policy on AI-generated images (example posted on the right). As I understand current law, raw AI images cannot be copyrighted and are therefore considered public domain by default. Please let me know if pictures such as this are permitted on Miraheze Commons. SimonJKirby (talk) 02:04, 16 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

That's what I understand current copyright law in the USA says, but I am neither a lawyer not a resident of the USA. Copyright law in Canada does not make any exceptions for whether an image was created by a human or an AI. We should confirm exactly what the law is in this matter before proposing a policy. --Robkelk (talk) 18:20, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It's a very grey zone. The European laws haven't been updated to address this either.
I will look into this, and perhaps we need to create our own policy on this. Rodejong (talk) 19:04, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Request for restoration of deleted images[edit source]

This is about the previously deleted image File:Jisyotan.png.As I explained when it was deleted in the past, this is an image that I created myself and does not infringe on anyone else's rights. The image was created using a game app called "V-Katsu", and the terms and conditions also state that you can freely use the image you created.(Game Steam Link→[2])Please restore the image as soon as possible.--虎之介 (talk) 03:48, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

虎之介, thank you for raising this question. I had a look at the file in question, and it looks like it was essentially deleted as missing the essential licensing and copyright attribution information (a common deletion reason). The image itself looks like it may have been a screenshot from a game or scripted animated television series. If that is the case, it could simply be considered reproducing a copyrighted image. Nevertheless, I don't see a need to restore the deleted image, given the deletion reason, but would be fine if you were to re-upload the image with the correct file licensing and copyright attribution information missing. This would allow Miraheze Commons users and administrators to perform the appropriate due diligence to ensure the licensing and attribution information is as stated. Hope this helps! :) Dmehus (talk) 16:46, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

File:Country calling codes map.svg from Commons was replaced by a local file. Could the file be moved to File:Country calling codes map2.svg instead, so the Commons Wikimedia File again is used? Rodejong (talk) 20:10, 9 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Administratorship[edit source]

I would like to be able to help out more, and as administrator I would be really able to. I am thinking about license control, conflicting files with Wikimedia Commons that are overwritten, and help users out where needed. Also File deletion where appropriate.

Also I would like to help with Community requests. I have a good knowledge about licenses, and how File pages should be used. Rodejong (talk) 21:56, 9 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
